To me it isn’t just piles of thin paper
Covered with ink inside a wood spine
nor is it just something that
adults say will help me learn.

Books are a friend of mine
that’s there whenever I’m lonely.

It can make me happy,
laugh until I start to cry,
cause a flood in my eyes
and scare me to sleep.

Basically, if there wasn’t books or
anything to help you read,
our worlds will be completely blank.

Reading doesn’t just help us with our vocabulary
or interpretations of real life events
or to enhance our creativity and minds.

It lets our minds
take a easy-to-take getaway.

Going into a different world
that is filled with emotion
and wonders and mystery.

Leaving your problems
and fading them
just by reading words.

Words that turn into sentences,
suddenly they’re ideas,
before you know it you’ve
read a whole paragraph.

A pile of paragraphs
become brief essay,
that are suddenly
blended in to make storylines.

So to reading,
thank you for
being my friend
when my problems
became suddenly difficult.

You can count on me

that I'll be hanging out

with you pretty often.

Your friend/reader,
Madeline
