After the Rain
After the rain comes a rainbow
A treasure after the terrible torrent.
The water pitter-patters, mixing with the fiery gates of the devil.
It’s suddenly a war; only the strongest will survive.
I want to escape, to leave this place,
But I’m stuck in the flood, drowning.
They tell me it will hurt
But I don’t want the pain.
My life is shattered from the start of this grueling game.
Confined, without movement, to the white-walled room.
Am I falling apart?
Losing this battle for life?
I kept thinking of the negatives, the fear of losing my identity, my purpose
But there’s so much more.
Never being able to ride a bike, play a game of fetch with my dog,
always being dependent on others…
My body fights, wrenching out from its humble hibernation
Struggling for movement, urging my nerves to join the wrangle.
The enemy is creeping through my blood,
I’m becoming paralyzed, losing control of the knife
I watch as others trudge through the seeping mud
or get washed away in the frenzied feet of the hurricane.
Slipping under the churning water,
never seen again.
I think about letting go, falling into the waves and joining my friends.
The light skies seem so close, the blissful breeze easing the epidemic,
And yet I can’t.
My body and soul yearn for the attraction of life,
My wasted time is not an option.
I see faces, expectations, and finally hope, reflecting like glass
Overshining the loss and guilt purging my body
No more will I fall under the common casualties
I will write my own destiny, my own heroic story.
Fighting for every ounce life has to offer me,
Defying the rules of physics themselves
I will walk through an endless chamber of torture and anguish,
Watching others drown, scream, lost in their own maze of confliction.
I will fight to become my very own shining star, in a universe way past darkness
I will become a rainbow

When I was eight, I was diagnosed with a disease that could've paralyzed me, so this poem tells the story of my emotions and feelings at the time. I hope kids who are being troubled by something could read it and be inspired to keep fighting because something good always comes out of it.
