Be true to you
Be true to you
So I guess I forgot to tell you.
I’m allergic to boxes;
Black boxes, shoe boxes,
New boxes, you boxes-
Even cereal boxes,
Telling us lies about champions.
Look through it and all you’ll see are flakes.
Now make no mistakes,
I make no exceptions
For Cracker jack
Or Christmas glitter.
Haven’t you realized?
We made of skeleton!
I’m skin and bone just like you.
Be true to yourself,
Because that’s the only box you need.
Discriminate us: black, white, Asian, Mexican, bully,
Wimp, jock, geek, etc.
It doesn’t matter though,
Because you love your boxes.
Just remember something,
My true self won’t fit in your boxes.
God made us to be unique,
So why try to be something your not?
I’m going to follow in His example,
Because its high time that we choose to be ourselves.
I know it might be hard, but the choice is all yours.
You can walk in the footsteps of others,
Or you can go and make your own path.
I know I’m going to be exactly the way I want to be.
No more hiding, because now is the chance to just be you.
You have nothing to prove to anyone,
So why try so hard to impress people?
I’ve heard from someone special that it doesn’t
Matter what size, shape, or color you are
Because somewhere out there someone loves you for you.
So knows your chance.
Stop hiding. Be true to you.

I was inspired to write this poem by my closest friend. She was always telling me to just be myself around her and I looked around and saw that everybody had something about themselves that they were scared to express.
