Lemonade
Drip, Drop.
A child prepares lemonade
squeezing the lemons
until their knuckles are white
and every sour drop is released.
The final product tastes of
kool aid mix and sunshine.
My feet pound on the pavement
mimicking my heartbeat.
And, lacking their usual restraints,
they change color with the seasons.
Yes my feet are as black as the asphalt,
but I don’t care because
when life gives you lemons
you make lemonade
