Off the map,
we sit.
Off the map,
we wait.
Off the map,
we drink lukewarm lemonade
and talk about our lack of future.
Off the map,
we listen.
Off the map,
we watch.
Off the map,
we bear witness
to our neighbors’ soft undoings.
Off the map is quiet. The wind tosses our voices through the sky, so even if we can bring ourselves to speak, there’s little chance of being heard.
Off the map,
we sleep.
Off the map,
we dream.
Off the map,
the gravel embeds itself
into our dusty bones.
