Pain Won't Last Forever
Walking through these halls of familiar faces,
Everyone in their own separate places.
I'm not seen as one of them anymore;
Talking to me is almost like a chore.
But this pain can't last forever?
I made a call that ended the night,
And made some people so angry they wanted to fight.
All I wanted was somone to help me.
You all didn't come to my aid but decided to flee.
But this pain can't last forever?
I told him not to touch me anywhere,
Yet he did it anyway without a care.
His cruelty has left me without a voice,
And trust me that was not my choice.
But this pain can't last forever?
No one knows the truth about him;
He keeps that part of himself very dim.
I want her to stop while she's ahead,
But she hasn't listened to a word I've said.
But this pain can't last forever?
I can't take this silence any longer;
I need to speak up so I can be stronger.
She told him everything she heard,
And now his anger has been stirred.
But this pain can't last forever?
He pinned me up against my will again;
This time I would not let him win.
Paralyzed with fear because of a blade to his neck,
Doing this put him in check.
But the pain is still there?
This weight has lifted off my chest;
Being able to speak is truly the best.
Everyone understands now and makes sure I'm alright.
IT happened but acknowleding that is letting me take flight.
The pain is fading away now.

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson was the inspiration of this piece. The theme that you can overcome even the worst events in your life was great. This poem tried to represent Melinda, and any other girl who has been sexually assaulted, overcoming her attack. I hope rape victims will see that they can overcome their attacks, even if it takes time.
