Maybe it&#039;s not about the happy ending<br /> Maybe it&#039;s the story

Hi there, I just had a question
You see, I’m reading in this magazine an article on how to be thinner,
And how to be pretty
And I see all these pictures of figures I should be
So my question is, why?

Why do you do this to our generation?
Creating an image for girls to live up to
And then watching them crash and them burn when they fail to become picture perfect

I have this friend, more like a sister
She was dragged into this war that you started, all for nothing
Because you taught kids to not accept differences
To call her names like queer and fag, to bully her
When in reality, love is love, and should have no other title

So tell me, why was she bullied and picked on and ridiculed
Into hating herself, her reflection, mind and body?
She gave into you and your rules to be pretty
The steps that you give us to fit into our body
And when she tried to fit in and her differences didn’t adapt
She turned to starving them out and bleeding them out and screaming them out, then
you silenced her

And so I wasn’t there for her when she was lying on a hospital bed
Or on a couch with some shrink trying to get into her head
Because sometimes when you’re just a kid you don’t want adults telling you how you
should live
I mean, society, honestly, you’re doing that job just fine

But this isn’t just about her, it’s about all the girls out there
Who are still trying to find their place in the world
That have self-harmed and have self-hate because you, society, have taught them to
Who stand in front of a mirror wearing a downloaded smile
The girls that don’t make a sound but whose eyes scream out for help

So, my “dear” society, is this what you wanted?
To create a world in which some people would rather die than be themselves in?
And now I ask you a simple question yet again, why?

P.S.
I’d like to add in here that, humans are human
Just as love is love, boys, they can hurt as well
You can teach girls to be Barbie’s, but keep in mind there are Ken dolls in the world

So instead of glamourizing, and mesmerizing, and brainwashing kids to be “perfect”
Why don’t you just teach them all that, love is love

It’s not about the size of you jeans or the gap in your thighs
Or the way your hair looks, your makeup, or hobbies
The way that you dress, good grades, or popularity
Because if you don’t love yourself first, how could you learn to love another?

So watch your back society, I’m rebelling against you
For all the kids that have died already fighting in this war
Because I realized something a while ago as your solider
That it’s not about a happy ending, it’s that story
And my story is going to be the best book you’ve ever read
I know one day that you’ll set it on your bookshelf with all the other kid’s, and I’ll know
that I’ve made a difference
