real grandma

the soft wrinkles
laughter lines
folded over
when she smiled
her watery green eyes
squinted shut and
drifted off to space for a moment
she wasn't really sleeping
but rather absorbing everything
i'd just said
and sometimes she thought
about him
and his essence
and the past
and sometimes it pained her
and yet you would never know
by that strong facade
she put on for everyone
she became acquainted with
