Standing Outside
A heart beat fades,
She looks up toward the windows.
Lit from the inside.
She blinks,
Her footprints covered by snow.
Time has erased her presence.
A bark sounds from the backyard.
An older woman sits inside,
Holding a worn picture.
A young girl with black hair,
Smiles back at her from the photo.
The girl outside smiles and says,
“Mama finally misses me.”
She disappears, and
A heart beat fades.
