Good Company
Gazing at the pale blue sky
Laying down on a bed of grass-noticing that
Each and every blade sways
Along with the breeze
Together in a motion
Grass is good company
Walking along a lonely dirt road
Kicking the pebbles as I go
The pebbles are still, and scattered
But they are together, and together form the path
The path I must cross
Pebbles are good company
At the top of the tree, with the wind blowing strong
The air rushes past
Doesn’t hurt, doesn’t sting
Makes everything it encounters
Feel alive.
The wind is good company
The drops of rain on a windowsill
A droplet makes not a difference
But when a million droplets fall together
It is a difference
Life arises as they fall
The rain is good company
I then encounter people
People with ugly characters covered up
With dressed up lies
People who enjoy the spotlight
But live in shadows
Are they good company?
Looks, stares, insults, glares
They can’t pass through the armor we have built
But unlike the raindrops
Unlike the grass, wind and pebbles
People can’t gain when they give up something
They complain
We strive for harmony , but we live in disunity
Just as the blades of grass sway in unison
Just as the pebbles - together - form the path
Just as how the raindrops fall together and liven us
How the wind sweeps past in a motion
We must learn to live, work, laugh, and cry
Together
