“All great artists draw from the same resource: the human heart, which tells us that we are all more alike than we are unalike”- Maya Angelou

The red desert sun shines on your past
uncovers your secrets
like clear cut glass

I count the wrinkles, wrenches, wraths, and wounds

your skin has marks
like weathered prunes

Your seasoned skin
My peachy face

Its clear to me I am your trace

these scars do not warn death or end
these scars are not for the weak or meak
but
are the glory of a man
who lived with a boom
he feared not of being discreet

The author's comments:

My grandfather has had so many rich life experiences from struggling through poverty to fighting in wars to love and everywhere in between.  His appearance reflects that. I think there is negative stigma about aging that I wanted to address.  I personally don’t think wrinkles and other age spots make you ugly, but display what you have been through in life, whether its a furrowed brow from stress or wrinkles to get from smiling.
