At The Top
The world resembles a lake
impossible to survive
unless you swim towards the surface
to thrive
yet living underwater
is not such a terrible lifestyle
its constantly being
pressured
by everyone above you
which makes it a race
swimming towards the surface dew
drowning the voice of those
below
just so you can get
to the top
it’s similar to a
sacrificial nature
condemning others for our success
thats why there are so few
at the top
the lake of the world
a basin of over seven billion
unique… little… droplets
all striving to get
to the top
and when a new entity makes it
he begins to add to the pressure
of a crumbling society
where you only matter if you’re
at the top
and if someone doesn’t make it
or gets beaten back underwater
that person with break
and shatter into a million
little… pieces
just so that other person could get
to the top
i guess it kind of explains
why there are so few
and why they aren’t so nice
when they emerge anew
at the top
so unless you lurk
in the darkest edges of the water
with a devious smirk
thinking about resurfacing
after having been drowned after you made it
to the top
so if you keep at trying
to get to the light above
you will swim out flying
and soar far higher than others
and create
a brand new
top

This poem is about how people climb the ladder of success, while incorporating a metaphor of a lake, and the surface is the "top" where parents and others expect you to be, but it isn't as easy as they think.
