Tears
The world rejoices when a child is born,
Pure, innocent, filled with life and potential,
Oh the wonders that potential can create!
The world begs the child to choose the perfect path,
That may save the greatest amount of lives,
That may bring joy to society,
That may make people’s lives easier,
To be an artist,
To be a doctor,
To be a programmer,
To be a teacher,
To be the person who benefits humanity,
The possibilities are endless!
Yet that child is stubborn and falsely guided,
By his dreams, expectations, and aspirations,
That child does not know the disasters to come,
That child does not know how many she can save,
He could cure deadly diseases and save thousands,
She could invent and make lives easier,
He could raise the next generation and prepare them,
She does not know how much potential she truly has!
But he does not know the future,
She listens to her desires and strives for her dreams,
Limiting the choices he can make and the paths he can take,
Every child has unimaginable potential,
All wasted on “careers” to make their lives better.
“Consider the future generations!” the world cries,
Yet the children stand back and watch society slowly burn,
Generation after generation follow this cycle,
Killing each other and stealing potential,
And Mother Earth can only mourn.
