A warm, sunny day in the mid of October.
Some family and few good friends.
At a camp on the magical Ohio River.
Three dare-devils who weren’t afraid of anything.
Roaring up and down the rocky hills.
One lingering behind like always,
Just because one of the dare-devils was a curly hair, holey jean wearing, tom girl.
To make it worst, a little sister, who wasn’t cool enough.
Following behind, going faster and faster.
The hills getting steeper and steeper.
Blurry trees, blurry grass, blurry rocks, blurry creek side.
Not paying any attention to her surroundings, just focusing on catching up.
Just on catching up.
Then boom, pow, skid, and nothing but a daze…
Hearing oh my gods and seeing the fright in their eyes.
Did you just become part of the Red Sea, or
Did the Red Sea just become part of you?
In a shock, feeling paralyzed, can’t move, don’t move.
Feeling the redneck-like treatment.
Doctor papaw, water hose, cut off selves, and duct tape.
Screams of murder!
Rocks forever in a childhood memory.
Everytime that right knee gets a look.
