&quot; You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world and there&#039;s still going to be someone who hates peaches.&quot;<br /> -Dita Von Teese

Hidden

Yet signs are present upon the child

Coats of lies

Covering bruises

Unhappiness, the trigger

Firing at his kid

Things heating up

Bring out the infamous Belt.

His buckle whips down

On his son’s innocent back

Slashing his skin, forming scars and

Searing and ripping through layers of forlorn respect and trust.

Years of confidence

Stripped away

As each strike

Lashes.

Joy replaced with fear

And defensiveness

A cold and closed personality

Because of one opened wound.

Time passes; a generation spawns

The abused child

Now a strong, grown man,

With a weak and hurt conscience,

Feels the need to release his pain.

The never-ending cycle

Repeats itself

And to his own son’s back

Reappears the Belt.

The author's comments:

My hope is that by reading this piece, the reader's eyes will open to the concealed and harsh reality of child abuse in our world, and they will take action to help the cause. Abuse is a never ending cycle that can only be stopped through the development of prevention and therapy programs and organizations, both much-needed foundations today.
