The Dark

Laying in the dark, wide awake thinking about
What could happen on a cold and windy
Winter night the full moon and stars shining in the midnight sky

Hearing something creeping up the long stair way
Silently and as quiet as possible opens the door,
Then closes it as if I hadn’t heard it

Looking at the door wondering if it would happen again,
I pull the covers over my head, feeling a presence in my sight
I rolled over facing the wall I hear a knocking sound

My head was filled with different thoughts
Wondering what would happen next
I laid there, My stomach tingling and my head sweating
As if I were feverish

I heard the knocking again this time sounded closer
Too afraid to get up and get my dad as if there were
A monster under my bed I started to count down in my head 3-2-1

Pulled the covers from over my head sat up slowly as possible
Creped over to the door as quiet as possible thinking I wouldn’t want
To wake the monster up in my room I opened the door quietly

My hands sweating my stomach aching my forehead sweating
The nervousness and fear kicked in as I opened the door half way

When the door was open wide enough I ran as fast as I could
Closed the door quickly so the monster couldn’t get me
As my dad woke up he grabbed his flashlight.

He ran to the room to see what was there
Maybe it was all made up in the mind
You never know what will happen laying in the dark.
