Late to Life
I can still see my breath
Thick frost covers the windshield
“What I Got” blasts softly through the speakers
I drive slowly uphill
My truck groans as I push the gas farther to the floor
I think about all that’s happened
And realize
I’ve never been happier
Turning into the parking lot
Kids look like cattle
Being sent in to be butchered
Nobody's happy to be making this walk
My parking space is last on the left
I back in the same everyday
I can close my eyes
I sit in my truck
Until the clock says its time
It’s 7:35
My conscious is screaming “you're late”
I’m too tired to care
I open the door
and accept my fate
