Losing Heir

I float amongst the surface enjoying the concept of freedom..

My water wings loosely inflated to my biceps,
Goggles unstrapped  tightly to my forehead,
And feet kicking away like a ninja warrior.
The grill nearby relays a graceful scent of ballpark pig.
I am a humdrum king.

The pitter-patter of the pool water was enough to keep me distracted when suddenly
Disaster  rang the doorbell.
Without a moments notice I found myself inhaling water
Casually drifting away from my floaties in agony.
I have lost the keys to my own castle.

As I sink like an anchor, I stare upwards at the world I knew so little
Until a hairy figure casts a comforting shadow around me.
Dad was there to give me a second chance at life. .

My crown breaches the surface and my mother is frantic.
Mascara streaks and red cheeks portray her
I could’ve almost chuckled at her clown face.

I take a much needed break on my throne
And focus on my breath
Rediscovering its value.
