Modern Day Blues
You wake up to a message displaying, “Good morning beautiful”
A modern day fantasy message to wake up to
But why?
Why is this such a big controversy, it’s just a sweet message?
Not a huge romantic gesture
You decide to take a selfie because you feel pretty
This may be the third one you’ve posted this week, but who cares?
A notification pops up, “You’ve received a new question.”
Ask.fm, supposedly just an anonymous website for learning
But more like a safe haven for bullies
The questions displays, “Stop posting so many selfies ugly b****,die.”
How is this fair?
A girl feels confident, and just like that it’s gone.
And who’s gonna do something about this? No one.
Maybe you’ll get another questions saying don’t listen to them
But still you won’t post another selfie for a while by the way you feel
You’re scrolling through Tumblr and see a picture of a girl’s cuts
You think, “Why would someone do that to themselves?”
But later on you find yourself doing it because you want those ten more followers
How is this okay?
People hurting themselves because the media says its cool?
Because maybe they’ll get more reblogs?
More followers?
You’re on Twitter, and see a post about depression
You think to yourself..
If I’m depressed will I get more followers?
You distance yourself from your friends
You quickly become very dejected
You start to regret everything that you did for social media
You realize you no longer have friends
Why did you do that to yourself?
Remember that nice boy who told you that you’re beautiful
He no longer speaks to you
He now thinks that you try too hard for attention
He’s moved on
But here you are, no friends and hurting like hell
How would you feel in this situation?
And you say this generation has it good.
