Excitement rushed through my veins
we were going to our sanctuary
pop’s cabin
our palace in the woods

It’s small, but it is all we need
connected to 60 acres of land
it’s a beautiful place
undisturbed and ever so quiet

I wake up in the morning
Pop is up, like he always was
and we sat on the deck
and watched the sunrise

yellow, orange, red and pink
all mixed in perfect harmony
we watch the steam from the cold river
rise from the base of the bluff

we drive down to the river
we wade into the frigid water
water so clear you can see the bottom
it is a teeming mix of turquoise and sky blue

we roast marshmallows on the fire
the smokey smell lingers above us
we sit and gaze into the clear
country night

Beautiful poem. Great memories from the cabin! Pop would be proud.
