Why does your sport matter?
What makes one position
any better than the next?
Who cares if you prefer acting
over catching a ball?
Why does it matter
if you like playing an instrument
instead of focusing on school work?
High school is a place of education,
and not a place of social dominance.
Or at least, thats how it should be.
What give kids the right to oppress
each other just because they don’t like the others passion?
We live in a world
where we hide our idiosyncrasies
deep down inside where no sunlight
could ever breach because of the protective shield
where your passion is harbored
in fear that if you let it out for some fresh air
someone might squash you to the ground.
We’re so afraid of disrupting our position
in the social hierarchy of high school
that we’re willing to let ourselves go
and detach from who we truly are
just for the chance to date the cheerleader.
When you live in a world
where people would rather fall out with a friend
than fall out with a clique,
when you live in a world
where school and work
is second to drugs and alcohol,
when you live in a world
where you’d rather have 1 as your GPA
than a “1” as your girlfriend,
when you live in a world
where its easier to fake a smile each morning
than put on a real one,
is it really living
at all?
