Monster in my Closet

My parents always
check my closet for monsters.
They never find anything,
I don’t think they look hard enough.
I can tell,
they’re worried.
What for?
The things I do are harmless.
They think I’m taking a
winding path.
Every night they scrutinize,
my closet.
They won’t find the monster in my closet
because--
I am the monster in my closet.
