At Winter's End
Spring hums its soft aubade
from the ruffled throat of a thrush
The mountains undress
from their thick frocks of purity
The sun’s kisses
burn the icy shells off the lakes
Green heads surface,
adding color to the melancholy terrain
The phoenix of spring
begins to restore what winter stole
