my mother tells me with a heavy head
that home is where the heart is
blood binds us here
family defines us
i will regret the venom that drips from my tongue
i am sick and acceptance will heal me
she does not see the bruises and oozing cuts
she is blind to the whip in my sister’s hand
my chest is a tundra
my heart bears no fruit
their soil is poisoning me
