Melting pot
Tight curls
Milk chocolate complextion
Big plump lips
My reflection
Bounce back into my eyes
Faint echo's of
Question
Compliments and comments run wild in my head
Hmm. . .you're pretty for a black girl.
I love your skin!
Are you mixed?
What are you?
I would imagine some go crazy to find out where to put people in their file cabinet of races.
Because simply replying "I'm female" or "A human" just isn't enough
Like a child learning to put shapes in a cut out space
Some get so frustrated when recieving an answer of two or more races.
So puzzled on where to put them in the fild cabinet.
A little Hispanic?
Some Caucasian?
Mostly Black!?
Sometimes I swear I can see others brain flip while processing
Information too much to wrap around comprehension
Maybe it's that gate
That gate of racial oppression blocking peoples ability fo grasp the idea of two or more races morphed together to create a unique identification
Identify me!
As one who will not be
Inside the file cabinet of a cookie perspective on races
Try to look through me and see
With x-ray produced by assumption of what i and others may be
NO!
I yell these words to obliterate that x-ray
I use these words to form glasses of clarity of what i and othera have always been
Mixed raced
The only difference is
I can see
What others see
That same female
Only now
In the reflection of others eyes.
