This Is Me
I am from hammers,
From screwdrivers and saws,
I am from the daylily,
The pine tree,
Whose long gone limbs I remember
as if they were my own.
I’m from KFC on Christmas Eve and
cake on any other occasion,
From Tillack and Desiree,
I’m from Friday night movies,
and early risers,
and family game nights.
I’m from “Don’t touch this,”
and “Don’t eat that,”
and “Don’t do that,”
I’m from annual trips to Miami,
I’m from Queens, New York.
Toaster waffles and pizza,
From when my great great uncle caught
a serial killer who hid under the bed,
From the piano that Grandpa bought off the back of a pickup truck,
But I am just, I am just a ripple.
