Animal
In the empty park
It is winter
You are calm
Starring into the glassy ice
Find the eyes that peer at you from behind
Into the snow blanketed trees
Searching for the animal behind the eyes
Look up when you hear a pop
Through the smokey haze
A fire tears through
The tires sleeping trees
The trees mesh into a maze
Whirling around you are lost.
The cliff face appears in front
To the left, to the right
Each path a fiery trap
The flames in sight send chills to your bones
You are cold with fear
In a frozen world
that's caught on fire
An animal runs by
The one with wonder
In its eyes
It knows the path to take
You follow
The eyes that drew you in
Show the path to take
Until suddenly you are back
To being safe
You look for the animal
With wonder in its eyes
When you look down
Into the glassy reflection of the ice
You see the very eyes.
You are the animal.
