Sisters
It was hard but I did it.
I contained her long enough to put sunscreen on her.
She twisted from my grasp and ran towards the lapping water
To play with the other Children.
"Sis!" she yells, stopping in her tracks. "Look at this!"
She lifts up a seashell, like a trophy of some sort
And slips it into her pocket, continuing her trek to the water,
To the other Children.
Sometimes, I’m envious of her ability to make friends that easily.
The other Children accept her without question,
They start to play tag in the water.
A younger girl falls, she helps the girl up.
I’m overwhelmed with happiness
At the sight of her not even hesitating before helping.
Our mom leans over and whispers,
“She is just like you.”
It is such a beautiful day.
When I look back on it,
I can almost taste the salty air,
Almost feel the warm sun on my shoulders,
And I can hear the Children laughing,
Hers the loudest of them all.
