"Friends"
You think you have everything,
until it is all taken from you.
You never know how much friends mean to you,
until you are sitting alone on a Saturday night,
after you’ve pushed them all away.
Then you realize,
the friends you kept,
still don’t truly care,
just like the friends you let go.
They don’t tell you everything,
and you can’t tell them everything.
Then prom comes along,
all you want is girl time,
trying on dresses and laughing.
Realization breaks your heart.
You start to wonder if closing yourself off,
to try and get some efforts from those “friends”,
was really worth all the tears.
Regret circles inside of you.
Imagination makes the realization worse.
All day you wonder how things would be different if you hadn’t.
Would you still be unhappy?
Would you love life?
Or would things never change?

I wrote this piece to relate what has been happening in my own life. I pushed people away because I had to focus on myself and my mental health. After awhile I realized that I never really had any true friends, and the friends I kept weren't true either. It has left me feeling empty and I always write better when I'm sad.
