Memory Munch
The butterscotch took me back to Buffalo
Where everyone loved and my mouth was always
So full of greasy pizza and cinnamon spice candy
That there was no room to hate
The apple pie crust took me to mimi’s
Where every question was a good one and never went unanswered
The crust stuck to the roof of my mouth
And the answers stuck to my brain
The flakes of the fish from the frustrated lakes
Where the fish did not bite when I myself wanted a bite
Hours in the clammy cold blushed my fingertips
And the tug on the pole lit them up and persistence was worth it
The hotdogs took me to the ballpark
They weren’t even that good
But a necessary medicine after a tough loss
Or a trophy of celebration after a close win
The chicken patties took me to school
And it was VERY unfortunate we had to eat them
But where I learned that everyone wasn’t as fortunate as I was,
But to treat them all the same
The spaghetti took me home
Where I learned that even though my plate was always
It never hurt to help others clean off their plates too
