Elegy for Learning
We had been driving ourselves toward a utopia
Where every student is treated as they should,
Not underestimated or diminished,
Not treated as inferiors,
Not in a place of fear.
How did we come to find ourselves here?
In this raw, barren firled so far from where we'd hoped,
Whose dry brush agitates the embers of our anxious hearts,
Whose pressures pop our ears and our morals.
How did we come to be here,
When we'd aimed so far away?
