"We could change the world, you and I. You, disassembling the government. Me, sticking it to the man and destroying the patriarchy. We could make history. Or burn it to the ground."

I am stuck out of your skin.
I belong inside, yet you will not let me in.
Inside your chest, beating, and pounding red.
But I am out here, where you left me instead.
There are words I can concoct, butterflies I can spill.
But you squash them flat, with no thought or thrill.
There are spirits in me, frantic to be let out
To sing and shout and fly about.
But you hate the way I express how I feel
With a sigh and a cry and a wail and a tear.
You are art!
You are too striking and stunning and perfect to go unremarked!
You can tell me to be silent but I will pour these words.
These are the things that need to be heard.
I love the way you laugh, with such elation and light.
I love the way you say good morning, hello, and good night.
I love the way your eyes dance like an earthen flame.
I love the way you steal my name.
I hate how you can’t see this and accept it as a fact.
There is beauty in you, no matter how cracked
That mirror is, I will be your reflection
Showing nothing but honest and true perfection.

So the next time you doubt yourself, or think you are worthless
Remember me, and that you have heard this.
And maybe you’ll finally let me in,
'cause it’s quite a shame to leave your heart out of your skin.

Don't shut me down when I praise you. There is little else I can do but love you.
