Waiting for Spring

The roses sleep.
Blossoms drooping tiredly against
a pillow of unforgiving snow.
Bright, lively hues
drain away
leaving darkness in their wake
Weary stems
wanting nothing more
than to rest
and dream
of the awaiting spring.
