Description of a Nightmare

I open my eyes, yet, I see nothing.
I feel nothing underfoot, I try to reach out and find familiar surroundings
There is nothing to feel or find.
I start to panic.
I realize I have been here before, I have seen this blackness.
This is my dream, this is what I see.
I turn my head and move my body around for some familiar surroundings,
There is nothing to see.
Just the same black. Everytime.

I am falling, falling.
Down and down and down.
I can’t tell where, I don’t know how fast. But I am falling.
I can’t stop. There’s nothing to grab, nothing to touch.
I am falling, falling.
I hear a familiar voice.
“It’s time to wake up!”
I open my eyes, I see a light.
It’s Monday. I have school.
I look around and see my room, as it always is.
I realize it was all a dream.

But to this day, at night, as I lie to go to sleep
I still feel the nightmare
Creeping
Watching
Waiting
Biding its time until it's ready to strike.
Even now it waits,
Like a tiger, coiled upon its haunches.
Just sitting,
Watching,
Waiting
I can see it now
Its tall, slim figure threatens me with every move
It's horrifying to watch,
But I can't look away,
Or it'll take me away,
And lock me up in its tiny cage,
Down and down into the bowels of the earth,
Where it'll torture me for all eternity,
Just as it’s always wanted to do.
Tortured souls circle around it, like moons, or planets.
If I look at its face, I don't see one face.
It flickers and switches between billions of faces,
Each one having the same expression.
Horror
Shock
Fear
Pain
Loss
It wears a tall, fitting suit that frays with streams of darkness.
Its hands, its horrifying, demon hands.
They look like shards of hell itself.
Ready to snatch its next target.
And I think it's me.

I wrote this as a school project many years ago and I kept editing it for a while after. Now I've decided it's actually worth putting somewhere and hopefully you guys like it!
