when the angels fell

did they face upward

at the luminescent sky

from which they came;

the fists of wind

resisting their descent, 

the sun scattered

behind squinted eyes -

or rather,

did they look down

upon the old threshold;

a chaotic and consistent force

of wind on their faces,

look into the

countless white eyes

of the beautiful creatures

whom they have protected

since the apple was eaten 


The author's comments:

If you were to fall from the sky, would you rather have your back against the wind and your sight on the clouds, or your face against the wind and your sight on mystery?
