We Got Lost
We got lost
We got lost thinking we could feel beauty in places we could only see it
We stared into our phones alone at pictures of places or faces we wished we knew
It’s true; I’ve done it too but its shallow
We got lost
In our places of comfort with our protectors we chose screens over smiles
We got lost staying home, seeing TV instead of each other
My brother picked another TV show over a soccer game outside with me
We can see beauty everyday with the click of a button
But feeling it is so different
Lay outside on a brisk winter night with rustling bushes and
Creaking crickets singing serene symphonies
That embarrass any attempt any phone could make to replicate the noise and you’ll see too
How far away we’ve gotten from real beauty
When the lights on our screens grow too bright for shriveled eyes and shriveled hearts And while the promises of friends and followers are broken as they always will be
Wander out into the dark and breath
And on a brisk winter night, in the season of death
You’ll never feel more alive
