I come from a place of
Love and happiness
As loving heart
I come from a place where,
People care
As nice as a hospital
I come from a place of glowing golden trees,
As a beautiful garden
I come from guidance and structure and life lessons
As a successful student
I come from wrong and right
I come from the cold
As blue as the sky
A family washed up with
Excitement
As a party would
I come from having friends and not having them
Some come and go
As often as headaches
I come from a place where we don't give in
As if we are fighting for a spot in life all the time
I come from Southfield Michigan
I come from making mistakes and learning from them
I come from
Singing, dancing, and being happy
I come from a Church family
I come from BEING ME!
In the poem “Where I Come From” the poet used a lot of imagery and simile in this poem. For the people to paint a picture of where she came from. To paint a picture of positive energy compared to other things and the people she is surrounded by. Thompson used line breaks to create a pause and show the real meaning of the sentence. Trying to explain how her life is and not only where she comes from, to show feelings and emotions. Thompson comes from a peaceful place, a place of happiness, religion, and care.
