Sea Level
It's raining again.
The tide is rising,
Waves rolling over you,
Making sure you stay
Below sea level.
You wrestle to keep
Your head up,
But you are forced
To stay down.
Tossing and turning,
You struggle to breathe
As water implodes your lungs,
Faster and faster.
You are falling now.
Bubbles escape your lips.
You wait to feel
Yourself hit rock bottom.
You are seconds away
From the end.
The popping in your ears
Is almost over...
...SCREAMING..
...SOMEONE IS SCREAMING...
"Open your eyes, that's it.
You are safe now.
Momma's got you.
It was just a dream."

Everyone knows that feeling of desperation when you are falling and falling, for so long that you fear the moment when you reach the bottom. It's like the life is being sucked out of you.
But then, there is joy and relief in the first breath you take when you open your eyes. You come back to reality, regaining the peace within yourself, as you realize it was all just a dream.
