i cannot finish my weaving
after Sappho
and i will accuse my lover
of being more like a cannibal
to rationalize my immobility
i am worthy like the european
(embellishing like them too)
i did not sacrifice to settle
and in this tasking life have learned
to be born is not to deserve
the privilege of an easeful existence
your fingers must be worn and bony
the man has told me
to suffer is to earn
i am the colonizer
and my lover, the carib
“he is the eve that has stolen your apple!”
i begin trivialization
to be worn is to be worthy

Winnie is a curious poet and lyricist living in the trees of Oakland. She has spent 16(million) years in this body and currently attends Oakland School for the Arts, where she will graduate this year with a diploma in Literary Arts. Her work has been published in OSA's literary anthology An Exchange, while her music has been featured by SoundWaves TV, Alice 19.3, and Oaktown Indie Mayhem. She hopes to escape the country next fall on the voyage of "higher education".
