Coming of age
“Why are you so afraid of growth, my dear?
Why are you so afraid
When the trees stand there and mock you?
Expand, expand!
Expand until your veins resemble arteries
Until your bones bear resemblance to
The trunks of the trees
who scorned your name with their contemptuousness
And covered you with their blades and leaflets
And fronds of rotting forestry
Expand, expand!
And let the trees weave themselves
Between your fingers
Sewn into the palm of your hand
Expand.
For the forest lays beside you
For you’re no longer afraid of growth”
