Innocence
I miss you, the youthful mind teeming with innocence,
smiles were broad and heartfelt with you.
Where have you disappeared to?
It seems your wild presence has gone, and left you feeling blue.
Swings and slides with your hair wild,
and even the stars set your mind ablaze.
Beauty was found in everything you saw
yet now you feel lost in your own maze.
Do you remember the way
butterflies used to dance across the sky?
Now I don't know when the last time you saw a butterfly was,
or even when you danced. Why?
You grew up and discovered life.
You found you had inner pain.
His drunken nights and her weeks in bed, his noose and her overdose:
have left their permanent stain.
You feel the scars burn in your mind,
fears and reality to brutal to fade.
Now it seems that you seek comfort
in only that ugly razor blade.
Why is it that scars in your mind,
only begin to heal when they're visible on your wrist?
Goodbye my innocent childhood.
You'll be forever missed.
