Chills
The front door slid open,
Leading to a winter wonderland.
As everything was frozen,
Flakes of snow fall from heaven.
The sky was as white as clay.
Placing my foot in the crunchy snow,
Chills rapidly ran up my spine.
Taking a deep breath,
I placed another foot in.
Taking another step,
And another.
The wind howled
As the breeze ran through my hair.
Cringing while the wind blows against my neck.
Is this what everybody loves?
Hearing another voice behind me
“Let’s build a snowman.”
Hours passed.
While the sun setting peacefully.
The beautiful snow is no longer beautiful.
The fluffy snow had became stiff ice,
Piles of black ice.
Joyfully skipping back home,
I felt a sharp pierce in my leg
As my foot sank deeper into the ground.
Attempting to yank out my foot,
I collapsed onto the thick layers of ice.
Again, I ask myself
Is this what everybody loves?
Crying for help as I stood helplessly
Tears freezing as they touch the air
The wind blowing sharply into my eyes,
Ice piercing through my skin
Sinking deeper and deeper
Feeling my throat burn as I scream
Winter is no longer beautiful to me.
Taking a glance around me,
Children have gone back inside.
It was just I.
Desperately screaming as I turned around.
Seeing the same face as before
Running towards me.
Taking deep breaths,
I was relieved.
Darkness had filled the sky.
Limping back home
Feeling the burning sensation as my foot tingled.
Telling myself
“Fluffy snow is gorgeous to look at
But in reality, it’s nothing but freezing water.”
