UNTITLED
Consuming, catholic ocean
Human food chain
Half a seagull in the sand
And the noise, and the
Noise, and the
Crash
Sand-dollar exchange booth
Will trade for gold. And waves
Ripple from the core
Of the sea, where
A giant skipped a stone.
Another crash
Repetition,
Repetition commanding attention
Demanding a search for its hidden
Message-in-a-bottle. But
The only message in the bottle is that
The man on the island
Died drinking,
Rum-blood cold. Except
He wasn’t stranded.
The authority of the sea was
But an inferior to
The black rocks
Flooding over the watery
Fuselage of a drowned plane. Nearby
A torn poster declared: Lost
Memory, reward if found. And
Somewhere
The skeleton and unsightly
Fat of a marooned whale
Groan for the monarchy’s Return.
With calculated diagonal passage,
The sea declares:
“King me”
