City Poem
Nevada, Mo
Hole in the wall,
Farm country, dirt roads,
Small town America;
Simple, slow, easy going,
City of good times:
They tell me you are boring and I believe them, for I
have seen the people lounging on their porches
with nowhere to go or intention of moving,
And they tell me you are simple and I answer: Yes, I
have seen the good hearted simple lives here.
And they tell me you are ugly and my reply is: Beauty
is in the eyes of the beholder.
And having answered so I turn once more to those who
sneer at my city, and give them back the sneer
and say to them
Come and show me another city with people that
truly enjoy life and never have a complaint.
Diving into work with no hesitation and the grind
never slowing their spirit.
Happy as a pig in mud, Carefree as a little
kid on his birthday,
dedicated,
grinding,
working,
partying,
relaxing, growing, enjoying,
After the days of work, celebrating a weekend
and hard weeks’ worth of work,
Under the stress of life celebrating being young
and alive,
Laughing and celebrating with true friends.
Late night and bonfires,
Celebrating!
Celebrating the simple, slow, easy going life they all live,
proud to be living in small town with nothing to do
but enjoy life, life in a hole in the wall town,
life in farm country.
