A Poem to a Person

Sometimes black clouds will rain
Agony and bloodshed packed into each drop
You may be drenched by gallons at a time

Sometimes black rain will fill you half empty and overflow
With razor still in hand
Iron blood will pour from skin splayed raw

Sometimes you’ll feel like you’re  drowning in a pit of molasses
Slowly dying slowly sinking
Syrup fills your lungs as you’re drawn down
Surrounded by empty noise people who keep talking
And breathing
While you’re slowly and silently disappearing beside them

In the entirety of the cosmos,  you are but a speck upon a speck
A tiny creature oddly irreplaceable in it’s uniqueness

Sometimes black clouds will rain

And when they do
You will realize how petty your pretty little life is
If the world is an oyster you are just a grain of sand
Everyday you’ll hear how you’ll turn into a pearl
But right now you are a grain of sand
A nuisance to an oyster which is to wrap you in layers of schooling
Until you come out on graduation day bright and shiny

In a few years you’ll be out of high school
And then you’ll go to more school, and after that even more
You’ll start as an intern
Work your way to minimum wage
And spend the next few decades clawing your way to the top of the company
You will be a pearl in 30 years
Bright and shiny
Paid in gilded bars enough to fill a real vault with fake money
You, will be fantastic

Right now you are a grain of sand oddly irreplaceable in it’s uniqueness
And 30 years for a single gem seems a bit excessive
But, like an oyster without a pearl my world would be empty without you

If in fact black clouds do rain and rain they may
Remember the difference between living and drowning is to breath
Calm down
Listen to the nice lady on the phone if you have to
Breathe
Close your eyes
And one layer at a time you will become a pearl
