Paradise
She is beautiful and surrounded with light
But others do not enjoy her company.
She embraces me with her hand and takes my breath away
My friends and family are mad that I left them for her
Why would they be mad at someone so gorgeous and pure.
She makes me feel young
And doesn’t care about my past
But cares about my infinite future with her.
Her hometown is paradise
All of my favorite parts of my life before I met her are here
Her father is innocent and forgiving
He says he has many children,
But they all fight each other for his honor
This scares him almost as much as it scares me.
My mother despises the new family I grew to love
I ask her why she is crying and distressed
Her eyes are in disbelief as she looks through me
“All she is, is darkness” she tells me
“But Mom” I say. “You are wrong,
She is beautiful and surrounded with light.”
