St. John's Cathedral, A truly ethereal place
Pillars of exotic marble line the aisles,
Intricate Gothic design leaves all gawking,
Elaborate scenes of the past, frozen in time upon the stained glass windows.
Sunlight flows through the colorful windows,
Brilliant, vibrant colors dominate the architecture,
A heavenly scene contained inside of a mere building.
All that is heard is quiet footsteps upon the ground,
The sounds of hushed voices whispering,
A tranquil silence engulfs all.
All the while I wonder,
How long did it take to build something so magnificent?
How did they manage to create such a surreal setting?
All the while I feel,
Awestruck,
Wondrous,
Serene,
Enlightened,
It feels as if I am connected to another place at another time.
The whole experience is a wonderful one, surreal…
Surreal…
Surreal.

I recently went on a fieldtrip to Savannah, Georgia, and this place was one of the destinations. The exterior of St. John's Cathedral itself is marvelous, but inside, it is a truly enlightening experience. Enjoy reading!
