The Holiday Season is Here
Yearly traditions are here this holiday season
It starts in November
when we eat until we can’t,
laugh until our faces hurt,
and enjoy family time its fullest.
The house smells of turkey.
The thick air is full of excitement
and everyone is happy.
The very next day
we make the long trip,
down to Cape Cod.
There, our appetites rise again,
our smiles appear again,
and our family time is enjoyed all over again.
We play our instruments,
talk and talk and talk,
meet new people,
and from friendships for life.
Now we’re in December
where the fake Christmas tree is out
long side the classical menorah.
Our fancy gingerbread houses stand tall,
our long Santa lists are in the mail
and we are out shopping for all.
The small house smells like a dark green pine candle.
The air is crisp and cold,
and the white glistening snow makes things look beautiful.
All of a sudden the first candle is lit
and me and my brother are anxiously waiting for the kit.
The kit of wonderful presents that is.
Christmas day never comes,
at least that is how I feel
all tucked into my warm bed and ready to sleep,
Although, my excitement takes over
and I watch the hours pass.
Finally, the time comes
when I may get up.
I rush into get my younger brother
And we rush in to get our mother.
She makes us wait at the top of the stairs
before running down
and viciously ripping open our presents.
That night we are done.
The family has come and gone
and out holiday season is over.
