Laughter
Laughter
It pierced my ears
And broke the silence
Like the sound of a rooster’s call in the early morning
I turned to look
For there she was
The sound had stopped
Her mouth hung open
Her eyes squinted
Gasps for air
Not a care in the world
Mind empty
What had elicited this hilarity mattered not
About yesterday she could care less
As well as tomorrow
Or who was around her
Or where she was
Or who she was
None of it mattered
She was in the moment
As much as one can ever be
Right there
Right now
Tears rolled down her blood red cheeks
She hugged her stomach
And bounced up and down
Enthralled in complete silence
Another gasp for air
A ridiculous smile broke over her face
She, in that moment
Was the happiest person I have ever seen
Oh, how I envied her
