a mirror can see something only as it appears
it knows an object’s physical change over the years
the wear and tear and damage done
or the wrinkles gained or color changed by sun
it watches people grow up and grow old

but there are still many things it does not know
there’s no transparency, that part is only mystery
the size of one’s heart or the pace of their mind
a lot can change over time
even when appearance may seemingly remain the same

one day my mirror stumbled across this poem,
and reflected upon its own nature
after doing so, it simply replied to me:

“i see nothing more or less than you do, for my eyes are yours, and i am only real when
you are”
